After not much consideration at all, I've decided to move over here. There is no reason for it, and no grander symbolic meaning behind it. And I don't mind telling you I'm very proud of myself for that.

Ultimately, it came down to this: Fernando is trying to start a blog community, and there was no compelling reason not to move. I figure it's easier for you four to update your links than for me to try to play Justify My Attachment Disorder.

See you guys in a few minutes.

I've been identity thieved!

This morning my mom called to let me know that my bank had called their house wanting to talk to me about some strange charges. I gave them a call back, gave them my card number, and, as it turns out, there were a string of weird charges on the Internet that I never made. They told me they were cancelling my card and that I would be getting a new one in about a week.

The first, obvious wave of paranoia (maybe I should never use my debit card ever again!) was followed immediately by a more rampant paranoia, wherein I thought that the person I had talked to on the... (more)

It's weird, first thing in the morning, to see your exact feeling on something laid out right in front of you in such a concise, striking manner:
"I loved Calvin and Hobbes. For the lonely, precocious children of the Calvin and Hobbes generation -- and I suspect we are legion -- it's impossible to convey how profoundly we were affected by Bill Watterson's genius. Like my mother with the Beatles, I can't even talk about it without a dangerous amount of tears and introspection. So I won't try here, except to say that Watterson was to newspaper comics what Stephen Sondheim was to musical... (more)

What do you say? I've been trying to write about this all day, but what do you even say?
Speaking at Issac Asimov's funeral, Kurt Vonnegut said, "Isaac is in heaven now, that was the funniest thing I could have said to a crowd of Humanists. God Forbid, should I pass on sometime, may all of you say that Kurt is in Heaven too."
But, you know, he said a lot of things. That was a problem when I was trying to decide on a quote to include: the amount and quality of things this man said and wrote over the course of his life is monolithic. Like Mark Twain before him, his work has so permeated our... (more)

This week has found me obsessed with two albums produced by people I know, in one case slightly more than the other. My only thought has been that everyone in the world should hear these records, and I'm starting that particular crusade here with the, oh, four or five of you.
I guess this entry veers more towards the "music blog" end of the spectrum, but that's what I'm able to acheive by not limiting myself within a genre.
First up, an album that was given to me by the band in question. Two local kids, Jen and Eric, whose name has evolved from Jeneric to We Are Jeneric to Hansel and Gretel... (more)

I am sorry to unleash an onslaught of new entries (two) on you, but this is just too much. At Ms. Lurie's suggestion, I did in fact look up "flossy" on UrbanDictionary.com, only to find the following as the seventh definition:
"A transvestite resembling a gerbal by the name of Gerard. Lures in unsuspecting males under the alias of 'Flossy'. Tall, crooked teeth and false blonde wig."
This groundbreaking description was provided by a user named Prowl, whose other contributions are the only entry each for the words "candeh" and "tigersock." After describing the former as an interjection, a la... (more)

The pride of Albany, alternative newsweekly the Metroland, has recently established a blog. By recently of course I mean in November, but I just caught on. You know, I got an iPod in July. Whatever.
The blog, maintained by a handful of Metroland writers and dealing with issues local, national, and Internet, is written in much the same manner as the paper's best pieces, making it a breezy and entertaining read. I highly recommend everyone check it out, and leave them some comments, as they appear to be lacking in this department. And, while you're at it, it wouldn't really kill you to leave...
For those of you imaginary people who are following my exploits with a fervent intensity akin to the World Cup or the British public leading up to the death of Princess Diana -- well, first I must assume that you're bored. But, that aside, I did feel it was necessary to report to these figmental fans that I have not yet renegged on my New Year's Resolutions. It being March 1, my time to come up with a source of income for The Rev Records is up. Luckily, I managed to sweep in at the zero hour and save that resolution from New Year's Resolution Inevitability. I don't really want to discuss the... (more)

It once seemed impossible, but it's over: I submitted my law school application yesterday. For the time, I'm only doing the Albany Law application, for a number of reasons. What's important at the moment is that for the first time since I decided to take the LSAT, I have nothing academic hanging over my head. I feel an incredible, utterly forgotten sense of relief. I intend to make full use of this time.
My first order of business is to get excited about the fucking Oscars.

While I think it devalues my original sentiment, you have to admit this is fucking weird. How often do you read an article about Jimmy Buffett? Much less one which describes, in wearying detail, his fan demographic.
And another thing: making "salt shaker" into "shaker of salt" in order to rhyme "salt" with "don't" isn't clever. It's actually kind of stupid.
